Background of Tieger Awards
TiE in West Bengal believes that among many other initiatives by the Govt. & industry in WB, a separate initiative needs to be created to put entrepreneurship in the centre stage of West Bengal ethos. TiE believes that entrepreneurship can add substantial value to the development of an area and also add much more in jobs in comparison to others. TiE has taken up initiative in association with several educational institutions to help develop entrepreneurship as a career alternative in schools & colleges.
Purpose of Tieger Awards
Mr Shoummo Acharya, President, TiE, (The Indus Entrepreneurs) - Kolkata announced the first ever "TiEGER AWARDS 2006", (the TiE Great Entrepreneurs Awards) at a Press Breifing in Kolkata on 27th June, 2006. The TiEGER Awards was the first ever Entrepreneurship Awards in Eastern India.
TiE Kolkata had decided to Institute the first ever "TiEGER AWARDS" to instil fire among the budding entrepreneurs on Bengal who are the flag-bearers for
the next generation of entrepreneurs that the country
will witness.
TiE believes it is important to create an image for entrepreneurs in West Bengal and for this instituting a
TiE Entrepreneurship for Excellence Award, "TiEger". The award is proposed to be given while felicitating a reasonable number of budding / successful entrepreneurs. In 2006, Tieger Award was given in the following 5 categories : one each from IT / ITES, Manufacturing, Other services, Social Entrepreneurship and Woman Entrepreneur. There were five distinguished faces from industry, academics & bureaucracy who served in the committee of judges. A specific criteria had been drawn up for selection of the entrepreneurs and IIM Kolkata had agreed to assist TiE in this regard. The award was presented at a ceremony in Kolkata on 28th July 2006.
