The 2-Day Boot Camp has been introduced by TiE Kolkata to motivate the young and budding entrepreneurs of West Bengal and help them take up entrepreneurship as a career alternative.
An entrepreneur is best tapped and groomed in his or her college days. It has been observed that in recent times, a movement of university based start-ups is growing in premier management & science institutes in India.
The objective is to identify key entrepreneurial talent in Bengal and mentor them extensively to provide them entrepreneurial education, opportunity and recognition so that the ideas take shape and get transformed into proper business activities.
In other words, this is a mission to convert 'job seekers' to 'wealth creators'.
TiE Kolkata aims to identify & spot entrepreneurial talent from engineering colleges in Bengal. In this venture, National Entrepreneurship network (NEN) is a partner of TiE Kolkata.
TiE is keen to make students/professionals conscious of the market potential of the projects they undertake. If these projects are initiated with moderately managed processes, young budding entrepreneurs with a spark can produce innovative business propositions.
TiE along with NEN, will invite business ideas from a number of B-Schools, engineering & general colleges in Bengal to identify around 35 vibrant young entrepreneurial prospects.
They will then be taken through a 2-day training programme in Kolkata in the sidelines of Tieger 09.
Out of these 35, 5 will be shortlisted for presentation of business ideas, on the basis of innovation, merit of the projects and skill of the students/professionals.
The final round will culminate in Tieger 09, where the best 2 ideas will be given 'Tieger Cub Awards'.
TiEGER Cub Awards - A Note
Introduction
TiEGER Cub Awards have been introduced by TiE Kolkata to help and motivate the young and budding entrepreneurs of West Bengal. The objective is to create an enabling environment in West Bengal to help young people take up entrepreneurship as a career alternative.
In other words, this is a mission to convert 'job seekers' to 'wealth creators'.
Although West Bengal has been trying to position itself as one of the most happening states in the country, it has not witnessed much of an increase in entrepreneurial activities, seen in other parts of the country. The majority of the population still has an apprehensive mindset towards wealth creation through entrepreneurial activity.
It is strongly felt that this needs to be addressed and an ecosystem should be created which nurtures and motivates entrepreneurship.
The Kolkata Chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) addresses this feeling of despondency towards entrepreneurship, through its signature event, the TiEGER Awards, to instill fire amongst the budding entrepreneurs.

The entrepreneurial movement of TiE, the largest global not-for-profit organization on promotion of entrepreneurship, started in 1992 in the Silicon Valley. Based on three A's : Awareness, Advocacy and Assistance, our mission is to help budding entrepreneurs through mentoring, networking and education.

TiEGER, the Signature Event, to motivate Bengal Entrepreneurial Tigers
In 2006, TiE Kolkata had a successful launch of the TiEGER Awards recognizing local entrepreneurs in West Bengal.
With this objective, TiE instituted the first ever Entrepreneurship Awards in Eastern India in the year 2006, to instill fire among the budding entrepreneurs in Bengal, who are the flag-bearers for the next generation of entrepreneurs that the country will witness.
The 2nd in the series, Tieger, 2008, held during 1st - 2nd February, 2008 was a huge success, with the presence of Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal; Mr. K V Kamath, MD & CEO, ICICI Bank; Mr. Shashi Tharoor, former under Secretary General, United Nations and Chairman, Afras Ventures, Dubai; Mr. Arjun Malhotra, Co-Founder HCL; Dr. Debesh Das, IT Minister, Government of West Bengal; R Ramraj, Advisor, Sequoia Capital; Ms. Laura Parkin, Executive Director, NEN; Ms. Sharon Bamford, Director, UKIBC; Mr. Vinayak Chaterjee, Chairman, Feedback Ventures and many other experts.
The Awards, including the TiEGER Cub Awards, were distributed by the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
TiEGER 2009
Like every year, the goal of the conference is to foster inspiration, skills, ideas and networks. It would be covering a range of topics from finding new business concepts to building the right team to raise capital and making B2B connects with foreign companies.
The Conference would be divided into the following segments:
A main conference with keynote sessions, presentations by entrepreneurs and leaders designed to promote/develop entrepreneurship.
Awarding entrepreneurial ideas from the Top of the Pyramid, Bottom of the Pyramid and TiEGER Cub Awards.
TiEGER Cub Awards & Bengal Entrepreneurial Talent Search Program
The Bengal Entrepreneurial Talent Search Program (BETSP) is an effective platform for searching entrepreneurial ideas.
The Business Plan competition through BETSP, will shortlist entrepreneurial ideas from educational institutes in West Bengal. The ideas will be short listed in terms of innovation, skill, feasibility and merit.
The procedure will culminate in TiEGER 09. The selected students will be mentored extensively by leading entrepreneurs, professionals, venture capitalists, so that ideas take shape and get transformed into proper business deals.
The finalists of the competition will be provided the "TiEGER Cub Awards" at TiEGER 09.
In this venture, to take the programme to a new height in terms of scale, scope and effectiveness, National Entrepreneurship network (NEN), is partner of TiE Kolkata.
